about

Sound of Fear is about facing the reality of the human predicament head on. The lyrics almost put the listener in a dream like setting. A place where we are often confronted with our worst fears and insecurities. In the second verse Chris sings “heading straight through the flowers and the fields, sometimes in my dreams I’m falling, It’s so elegant and real.” It is here and elsewhere throughout that Heartracer portrays a sincere approach to the intangible and tragic elements of life and how really only love can anchor us back to a place where we want to be. “There’s definitely no escape when I was holding, there’s definitely no escape when I was falling.”

Besides our own mortality there are many commonalities to our struggles. Rather than lock them into a dark corner of the psyche Heartracer wears them in their lyrics like a badge of honor. One of the greatest fears of any artist, and a subject matter that many would rather avoid is that the abundance of passion for the sheer joy of creativity is rare and as temporary as life itself. We all know artists, actors, authors or musicians where we could say they were at the peak and height of their career, and if there are peaks then somewhere along there must be valleys. The lyrics of the song point to the honesty of that acknowledgement when Chris sings “i can hear the sound of fear and it doesn’t sound like anything at all.” And yet somehow for a young band that has yet to reach their pinnacle, they can see this clearly. The wisdom of this song reveals our uncanny ability to take the worst of moments and transform that energy into something positive. That’s what great art does, that’s the spirit of rock n’ roll, and that spirit is alive and well in Heartracer’s newest song Sound of Fear.
